Walking Encyclopedia, Much?
Theo, like all preschoolers, assumes that Mom knows everything. This is as it should be.
Stephen and Isaac, however, also assume that Mom knows everything, which is sometimes problematic.
“Mom, did Charles Dickens have children?”
“Hey, honey, what does diphtheria do to you?”
“Is there such a thing as a left-handed flute?”
“Mom, what does your thyroid do?”
“Are there any non-Japanese Asian car manufacturers?”
“How many vaccines is he supposed to get this visit?”
“What’s a hymn that goes with my sermon?”
“I’m supposed to be researching medieval castles–what are some good ones to pick?”
“How long do hummingbirds live?”
“How did Jane Austen die?”I appreciate the sentiment–the assumption that if something is worth knowing, I’m sure to know it.
But it’s less fun when they get frustrated when I answer, “Gosh, I don’t know. How might YOU find out this information?”
Today, at least, I’ve been the Information Queen.
Isaac has been listening to Christian (yay!) rap ( :polite smile: ) for quite some time now. Every time they throw out a biblical reference (which is, happily, often), he asks me about it.
“Mom, what’s Romans 10:9 about?”
“Mom, who’s Melchizedek?”
“Mom, what does James 5:16 say?”Thus far, I’m 453 for 454. (Yay, Baptists! Yay, Richard Hays and Intro New Testament!) The only one I’ve missed, so far, was 2 Corinthians 5:21. I knew the early part of the chapter was about suffering, but I didn’t know that exact verse.
I don’t know whether to be ashamed about the one I missed or happy about the 453 I got.
I guess I’ll just be glad that my son’s questionable aesthetic sensibilities are, nonetheless, getting him thinking about the Bible.

Those are some awesome questions! Oh, to be surrounded by inquiring minds.
Kudos on the Bible knowledge – I couldn’t have come even a tiny bit close.
