  • Hummingbird Confirmed!

I had had my doubts up until today.

But there are actual hummingbirds in Pennsylvania.

I had a feeder up all last summer.  Nothing.  Not a single visit.

So I bought a new feeder.  And three days later:

It has perches.  I've never seen a humminbird perch eating, or eat perching.

Now I need to get a couple more feeders.

I read online that hummingbirds prefer feeders with perches because hovering expends so much energy. Photographers usually want to get them in action, but really, how often do you get to see a hummingbird perching? I think it's pretty cool.

Arten't they just the most amazing thing!? Cool for you!

I didn't know that, MH!  Thanks!
Now I'm going to sit around and wonder why they even make feeders without perches.

My hummingbird feeder was attacked by ants and the result was so disgusting I had to take it down. But that's OK, because I have a Rose-of-Sharron right outside my window and it atracks hummingbirds naturally.

I envy your pictures, though. I can't seen to take a good picture of my visiting birds, especially not one as fast as a hummingbird.
