  • Best Christmas Present Ever

Amos Martin [Our Last Name] has finally arrived!

He was born Monday the 26th at 8:30 or so, weighing in at a positively svelte 8lbs 12oz.

We just got home today.  I'll comb through all the entries in the Date/Weight/Name polls tomorrow and figure out the winners!

Until then, rejoice with us!  Our hearts are full.  We are richly blessed.

Congratulations, Sarah and family!!  A beautiful boy!   8:30 am or pm?  :)

I love the name, for my own selfish literary reasons.  I am a fan/scholar of Amos Bronson Alcott, 19th c. transcendentalist father of Louisa May Alcott.  What was your inspiration for the name?

Welcome to the world, Amos. Born on the feast of St. Stephen, may the snow always be "deep and crisp and even" on your birthday.

Wow! I get a couple weeks behind in blog reading and look what happens!

    Congratulations! And welcome to Amos!

I gotta say, this is a particularly good photo of a newborn - light and shading, background, pose. He looks like he is in deep contemplation of the meaning of exsistance in this temporal world - or waiting patiently for his next feeding.

I've never read anything by him, Tiff!  I'll have to look him up now.

He is named for Amos, the Hebrew prophet, and for Martin of Tours, whom I've mentioned here from time to time.

@scsours - Amos Bronson Alcott was a bit kooky, but earnest.  He was big on educational theories and understanding childhood development as he "homeschooled" his 4 daughters...
The best biography is the Pulitzer Prize-winner _Eden's Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father_ by John Matteson, published in 2007.
